MANILA, Philippines - The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has confirmed that it was indeed a sinkhole that appeared in the middle of a basketball court in a village in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
“An in-depth study will also be done to find out the extent and presence of other sinkholes,” said MGB director Leo Jasareno.
He said the MGB has advised residents of Barangay Oringao not to go near the sinkhole.
Kabankalan officials have cordoned off the sinkhole after five residents fell into it.
MGB regional director Leo Van Juguan said the sinkhole may have been created by water flowing underground.
