'Cooler' public schools in Taguig City

MANILA, Philippines - The local government of Taguig has installed additional air conditioning units and new generators in the city’s 34 public schools, just in time for this year’s school opening.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said the new equipment aim to foster a positive and comfortable learning environment for every public school student in the city.

“Classrooms with high temperature affect the learning capability of the students. Instead of focusing on the subject, they think of ways to cool down,” she said.

Department of Education Taguig-Pateros Division (DepEd TaPat) administrator Dr.George Tizon said up to 40 units were allocated for the big city schools, while 12 units will be placed in the smaller city schools.

In addition, the city’s public schools were provided with generators in preparation for possible power interruptions especially during the rainy season.

Tizon said the generators will help prevent disruption of paper works and communication in the schools’ administration office.

Aside from these improvements, the local government has completed the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all of the city’s public schools in support to its anti-bullying campaign.

“We want to make sure that everything is ready before this year’s class opening. It is always our objective to provide a safe and conducive environment for learning in our schools thus we believe that there is always room for improvement in our public schools’ facilities,” Mayor Cayetano said.
