Air Force officer drowns in Ilocos Sur

MANILA, Philippines - A 29-year-old lieutenant of the Philippine Air Force reportedly drowned when he tried to rescue his two nephews off the coast of Sitio Caloocan in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, the Philippine Coast Guard said yesterday.

Witnesses said Lt. Alvin Lagria, whose family was having a picnic at the beach, rushed to the water when his nephews were carried by big waves at around 7:30 a.m.

However, Lagria was swept by strong waves while his nephews were able to swim ashore.
