Benguet veggies selling briskly

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet , Philippines   â€“ Business is brisk for the Benguet vegetable industry as supply and demand are both up, particularly with the approaching holiday season.

The rise in supply and demand inspired Benguet highland vegetable farmers, according to August Balanoy of the Benguet Farmers Marketing Cooperative (BFMC).

He said Chinese pechay known locally as “wombok” sells at P9 per kilo, carrots at P45, potatoes at P65 and sayote at P9.

Farmers, Balanoy said, are hoping the prices would remain this way for the entire season.
