BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – A government employee was arrested for violating the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte on Friday.
Juvy Lingatong Tupos, 36, was arrested at a Comelec checkpoint in Barangay Colorado, for possession of two firearms and ammunition.
Tupos failed to present documents for the 9mm and caliber .45 pistols, and ammunition he was carrying, prompting the police officers to detain him.
The town’s police intensified its drive against election-related crimes after Erlindo Rosalin, 60, a barangay councilman seeking re-election, was shot dead in Barangay Magsaysay last Oct. 19.
