Chikungunya outbreak declared in Bataan town

MARIVELES, Philippines – Mayor Jesse Concepcion has declared a chikungunya outbreak here after 100 cases were recorded by the local municipal health office in three coastal villages. 

Concepcion told The STAR he met with local municipal health officers and ordered mosquitoes’ breeding places destroyed and fogging operations conducted in Barangays Malaya, Baseco and Camaya to prevent the spread of the disease.

Danilo Velasco, municipal health officer of Mariveles, said the declaration of an outbreak is aimed at alerting residents to keep their environment clean.  

He said most of the victims are males aged 30 to 40 years.
