Luzon dams release water

MANILA, Philippines - Some major reservoirs in Luzon released water on Sunday due to rains brought by the storm-enhanced southwest monsoon.

As of 9 p.m., the Magat Dam in Cagayan has opened one gate at two meters as its water levels reached 191.30 meters nearing its spilling level of 193.00 meters, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Flood Forecasting and Warning Section.

The agency said the Ipo Dam has also opened one gate at 0.50 meters as its levels reached 100.41 meters, which is above its spilling level of 100.20 meters.

As of 8 p.m. the water levels in Angat Dam reached 193.57 meters and La Mesa Dam at 79.40 meters, nearing its spilling level of 80.15 meters.

In its update on Sunday morning, the state weather Bureau said Binga and Ambuklao dams also opened their gates.
