MANILA, Philippines - The Taiwanese investigators here on Tuesday inspected the vessel of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) involved in the fatal shooting waters off Batanes last May 9.
The 12 Taiwanese probers inspected the MCS 3001, a 35-meter vessel docked at Pier 13 in Manila, for almost an hour and a half.
Commodore Eduardo Gongona, fleet commander of the Philippine Coast Guard, assisted the foreign investigators.
He said the Taiwanese probers inspected the interior of the vessel and its damaged side, which could have been a result of the alleged collision with the fishing boat of Taiwan.
After the inspection, the Taiwanese probers headed to the headquarters of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
They have concluded the ballistic tests on the firearms used by Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel involved in the Balintang shooting that killed a Taiwanese fisherman.
The Taiwanese probers have also watched the video footage of the PCG that shows part of the incident.
The Philippines and Taiwan both agreed to a parallel probe on the fatal shooting and swapped teams of investigators.
An eight-man NBI team went to Taiwan on Monday to examine the fishing vessel involved in the shooting incident and interview its crew.
The NBI probers will also ask for a re-autopsy report on the Taiwenese victim's body after his family refused the request to conduct the re-autopsy.
