Bukidnon town OKs hydropower project

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Officials of Impasug-ong town in Bukidnon finally give their nod to a hydropower project as an additional power source for the municipality.

The hydroelectric power plant of the AboitizPower’s subsidiary Hedcor will be built in Barangay Guihean in Impasug-ong whose residents have expressed their support for the project.

“Hedcor needs the full support of the community. We have to ensure the safety of our investors against any unfavorable incident. The project will help ease the power crisis in Mindanao. Blackouts can be taken as an indication of the critical power shortage,” said Impasug-ong Mayor Mario Okinlay.

Okinlay said his town needs Hedcor’s additional capacity to reduce the blackouts it is currently experiencing.

Representatives of Hedcor, a wholly owned subsidiary of AboitizPower, and the Impasug-ong municipal government recently signed the memorandum of agreement for the project.

Hedcor intends to build two cascading plants that will harness power from the Amusig, Guihean and Tanaon rivers. The Manolo Fortich Hydro 1 will have a capacity of 35.2 MW, and the Manolo Fortich Hydro 2, 16.4 MW. Both plants combined can produce a total of 300 million kWh a year.
