MANILA, Philippines - Three people have died and thousands of have been displaced due to floods caused by heavy rains in three regions in Mindanao, the government's disaster response agency reported Tuesday.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) identified the three fatalities as Glenn Custodio, 17 of Barangay San Miguel, Tagum City; Boyet Borres, 19 and Clyde Selgas, 19, residents of El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental.
Two more victims identified as Ramon Ampong and John Michael Unson of Misamis Oriental have been reported missing.
The NDRRMC reported that a total of 19,840 families or 84,202 persons were affected by flooding in seven provinces in the regions of Northern Mindanao, Davao and Central Mindanao.
It added that a total of 8,542 families are currently staying inside 51 evacuation centers.
Parts of Mindanao have been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days due to the tail end of a cold front over the northern part of Davao region and Central Mindanao.
The NDRRMC said that continuous rains have overflowed rivers in Misamis Oriental, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, Davao City and North Cotabato.
Compostela Valley has yet to recover from the devastation of Typhoon "Pablo," which killed hundreds of victims in the province.
