Lalaine Jimenea - The Philippine Star

ORMOC CITY, Philippines – Engineers and officers of the 4th Leyte Engineering District (LED) will have their hands full implementing the various infrastructure projects of Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez this year.

District engineer Lino Gonzales said the Regular Infrastructure Fund of the 4th LED was increased from P19.1 million to P755 million this year.

“Thanks to the hard-working congresswoman, Ormoc City mayoral candidate Richard Gomez and her Department of Public Works and Highways family who have made it a point to implement projects at the right cost, at the right quality and finish it at the right time,” Gonzales said.

Among the projects to be funded by the P755 million are preventive maintenance of major road networks, road concreting, multi-purpose pavements and multi-purpose halls.

Recently, Torres-Gomez led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Merida-Lundag Road. Gonzales said the congresswoman was able to get P 122 million for the road project, which cuts through the remote areas of Merida and goes out at Isabel town.

Gonzales said their public works projects for 2012 are 100 percent finished, and the DPWH monitoring group found them compliant.

For this year, Gonzales said they have bidded out the box culverts along Palompon-Isabel-Merida-Palompon Road (P4.16 million); a multi-purpose pavement (P5 million); various projects from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Gomez (P20 million); a school building for the city division (P1.1 million); and three school buildings – for Minesite in Merida town, San Francisco in Isabel and Salvacion in Albuera (P1.6 million).

He said Torres-Gomez also lobbied for the release of P6.5 million for a flood control project in Pagsangaan River.
