12 fire incidents recorded December 31

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) recorded 12 incidents of fire in one day as Filipinos geared for the New Year celebrations on December 31.

Chief Inspector Renato Marcial, chief of the BFP-National Capital Region, said that five of the incidents were recorded during the New Year revelry on Tuesday night.

Marcial said that they were still investigating the cause of the fire incidents. He said that at least one was caused by a firecracker.

Among these incidents was the fire that struck the Amado Hernandez Elementary School in Herbosa Street in Tondo, Manila. There was also a report of another fire incident in Quezon City.

Marcial, meanwhile, said that the number of fire incidents recorded during this year's New Year revelry was lower compared to last year. He said that in the revelries for 2012, a total of 21 incidents of fire were recorded and three of these incidents were caused by firecrackers.
