Davao education program targets peace, development

DAVAO DEL SUR, Philippines – A P3-million ladderized education and acceleration program for barangay and tribal officials and workers being implemented in Barangay Tacub, Kiblawan town here is aimed at pursuing peace and development through education.

The program is a joint undertaking of the Department of Education’s Davao del Sur office, the municipal government of Kiblawan, and Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI), the government contractor for the proposed Tampakan mining project.

The program was started with an initial funding of P1.65 million from SMI with the rest of the committed funds to be released after a year-end program assessment.

DepEd-Davao del Sur alternative learning program head Helen Arancon said their initial assessment shows the program has been well received by the participants and the local government.

Arancon said the program helps establish peace and order in the area with tribal and non-tribal community members able to communicate with each other well.
