LIPA CITY, Batangas, Philippines – Officials of the Alliance for Consumer Ownership of BATELEC 2 denounced the killing of an electric cooperative executive in the province last Aug. 6.
Agricultural Sector Alliance of the Philippines (AGAP) party-list Rep. Nicanor Briones, meanwhile, has set aside P300,000 as reward for any information that would lead to the arrest of the four motorcycle-riding killers of Santiago Epifanio Garong, 47.
It is suspected that Garong, who was driving an AGAP-marked Toyota Delica, could have been mistaken for his brother-in-law, Ernie Reyes, president of the NGO-Federation of Lipa Inc. under the Alliance for Consumer Ownership of BATELEC 2.
Reyes and his wife Elena were with Garong when the ambush took place, but the couple managed to duck and escaped the attack unscathed. Garong worked as Reyes’ chief of staff.
