Luzon fishers warned of big waves in eastern seaboard

-

MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau yesterday warned fishermen against venturing into the sea, as big waves will affect the eastern seaboard of Luzon due to the surge of the northeasterly wind.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail over the eastern seaboard of Luzon.

PAGASA said the area will have rough to very rough seas with wave heights expected to reach 3.4 to 4.5 meters.

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it said in an advisory.

Meanwhile, PAGASA supervising undersecretary Graciano Yumul said the country will experience good weather this weekend, with no tropical cyclone expected.

In its 24-hour weather forecast, PAGASA said wind convergence was affecting eastern Luzon while the intertropical convergence zone was prevailing over Mindanao and Palawan, bringing mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over eastern and southern Luzon, eastern Visayas and Mindanao.

Widespread rains will prevail over northeastern Mindanao which may trigger flash floods and landslides, while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, it added.
