Masbate newsman shot

MANILA, Philippines – Gunmen on a motorcycle shot and wounded a tabloid reporter in Masbate yesterday, police said.

Antonio Castillo, 45, who works for the local tabloid Bigwasan (Punch), was wounded in the back and right thigh, said Senior Inspector Aurora Moran, police chief of Uson, Masbate.

Castillo said he knew the identities of his attackers, Moran said, without elaborating.

Last Tuesday, broadcaster Crispin Perez was killed in Mindoro in what authorities said was a “politically motivated” attack. – Mike Frialde
