B’gay bet, colleague’s son shot

STA. MARIA, Bulacan – A barangay councilman running for re-election and the son of a fellow candidate were shot by two motorcycle-riding men here yesterday in what is considered as the first violent incident related to the Oct. 29 barangay polls.

The victims, Martin Gerry Gumafelix, 39, re-electionist councilman of Barangay San Vicente, and Jojo Veloso, 23, son of fellow council bet Lee Boy Veloso, were campaigning when the gunmen attacked the young Veloso.

Gumafelix, together with the elder Veloso and their supporters, gave chase but was shot, too.

The young Veloso sustained three bullet wounds, and Gumafelix, two.  – Dino Balabo
