The municipal government of Morong, Rizal commemorates today the 88th death anniversary of war hero Tomas Claudio.

In a statement, the French Embassy in Manila said there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the shrine of Claudio this morning, followed by a tribute to his heroism.

At the age of 25, Claudio, a native of Morong, joined the US Army and sailed for France in April 1918. He died in action while fighting in the battle of Cantigny against the Germans on June 29, 1918 at the age of 26.

The embassy said the commemorative rites will be led by Rizal Gov. Casimiro Ynares Jr., Morong Mayor Joseph Buenaventura, First Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of France Bernard Regnauld-Fabre, and Department of Tourism Region IV director Louella Jurilla.
