Negros cop convicted of killing superior

BACOLOD CITY — A former police station commander in southern Negros was meted a maximum of 13 years in jail for gunning down his superior in 2000.

SPO3 Henry Ferrer was found guilty of homicide for killing Senior Inspector Reynaldo Ganadillo on May 24, 2000 outside the police station of Himamaylan town.

Judge Henry Arles took into account Ferrer’s voluntary surrender and sentenced him to a prison term of a minimum of eight years to a maximum of 13 years.

Court records show that Ferrer, then 51, shot Ganadillo, 53, with a caliber .38 revolver and then immediately surrendered to the desk officer.

Ferrer claimed self-defense, saying that a drunk Ganadillo shouted at him, grabbed his collar and then pulled out a gun. — Antonieta Lopez
