Cavite physician fails to survive second ambush

IMUS, Cavite — Dr. Engel Sequesca survived an attempt on his life last year. But not yesterday.

A fatigue-wearing man gunned down Sequesca in front of the Metro Cavite Dialysis Center along the Aguinaldo Highway here at about 12:15 p.m.

Sequesca, a resident physician of St. Dominic Hospital in Bacoor town, died of multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body while being treated at the University Medical Center in Dasmariñas town.

Sequesca, police said, had just boarded his Toyota car when the gunman approached him and shot him in the head.

Witnesses said the doctor, although wounded, tried to run over his assassin after the first shot was fired but the man pumped more bullets into him from the left side of the car.

Apparently in his attempt to flee, Sequesca bumped into at least three vehicles parked in front of the dialysis clinic and stopped about 30 meters away in the middle of the highway.

Rey Barco, Sequesca’s brother-in-law, suspected that the assassin was the same one who tried to kill the doctor but failed at City Homes in Dasmariñas town sometime last year.

Barco said nobody was held responsible for the first ambush. He added that he was not privy to the private affairs of his brother-in-law.

Sequesca’s assassin casually fled on foot after the incident.
