-
DAVAO CITY – Government troopers captured three New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in an encounter in Marilog district this city last Saturday morning.

The rebels were reportedly part of a 15-man NPA group seeking refuge in Sitio Kapatagan in Barangay Malamba then.

Elements of the Army’s 73rd Infantry Battalion, led by a certain Sgt. Narciso Aromin, were patrolling the area when they were informed about the presence of the rebels who were then resting in a nipa hut.

A 15-minute firefight ensued. As their comrades fled, Santiago Batoktoy, 25, Ongcol Aforte, 22, and Nazareno Amabas, 18, were trapped inside the hut. — Edith Regalado
