-
TACLOBAN CITY — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has finally decided to hold simultaneous special elections in 14 barangays in the Eastern Samar town of Can-avid and in the Samar towns of Motiong and Sta. Margarita and Calbayog City on June 11.

In Resolution No. 4448, the poll body directed regional director Adolfo Ibañez, the respective election supervisors and municipal election officers to make "all the necessary preparations," including the reproduction of at least 5,000 official ballots to be used in the special polls.

The Comelec issued the resolution last June 1, but its regional office received a copy only last Monday.

The special polls will be held in the 11 barangays that comprise the entire poblacion of Can-avid, Eastern Samar; as well as in Barangay Jolacao in Sta. Margarita; Barangay Mabini in Calbayog City; and Barangay Canatuan in Motiong, all in Samar province. — Ulysses Torres Sabuco, Ricky Bautista
