QCPD is most trusted police district – survey

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) came out on top as the most trusted police district in Metro Manila, according to a survey conducted in 2017 by the National Police Commission (Napolcom).

In the survey conducted on Oct. 30, Nov. 2 to 3 and Nov. 6 to 10, QCPD placed first among the five police districts in terms of respect and trust from the public with a rating of 73.6 percent, higher than its 30 percent rating in 2016.

Second on the list is the Northern Police District with 59.1 percent while the Southern Police District is least trusted with a rating of 36.3 percent.

The QCPD also obtained the highest rating in terms of quality of police response and accessibility with a rating of 77. 2 percent. It also bested other police districts when it comes to moral and ethics with a rating of 75.3 percent.

As for level of safety, the public viewed the QCPD favorably with 73.5 percent and crime reporting with 65.3 percent.

It also got the highest rating in terms of public support with 90 percent.

QCPD director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar said the result of the Napolcom survey could be attributed to the collaborative efforts among the police and the community.

He also cited the active support from the PNP leadership and local government officials as other factors.

It received favorable results from the service despite a report from Reuters news agency in June 2017 that Quezon City policemen were using hospitals to cover up summary executions of drug suspects.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa defended anti-narcotics operatives, saying the purpose of bringing wounded suspected drug personalities to hospitals is to give them a chance to survive.

The survey was conducted before Reuters came out with another report in December last year about a supposed secretive police squad from Batasan Police Station 6 responsible for the killings of 108 people in anti-drug operations from July 2016 through June 2017.

The survey had a total of 570 respondents, composed of 308 males and 262 females.
