1 dead, 7 hurt in collision

MANILA, Philippines — A man died and seven others were injured when a passenger jeepney hit a motorcycle in San Juan City Monday afternoon.

Dominic Peñaflor was maneuvering his motorcycle through a U-turn slot along Aurora Boulevard when the jeepney, driven by Rodel Ventura, hit the motorcycle and dragged it for several meters until it hit a Light Rail Transit Line 2 post.

Peñaflor was pinned under the motorcycle while his passenger, John Michael Valtar, was taken to a hospital.

Ventura escaped but surrendered later to the San Juan police.

Police said the jeepney passengers, including a couple and their two children, were treated at a hospital.

Ventura would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
