Drug cases eyed in fiscal’s murder

MANILA, Philippines - Caloocan police investigators are looking into drug cases handled by assistant city prosecutor Diosdado Azarcon, who was gunned down in front of his house last Monday, an official said yesterday.

“We were informed that he successfully prosecuted two women for illegal drug charges and a barangay official was mad because women are held in high esteem in their religion,” Chief Inspector Ilustre Mendoza, assistant city police chief, told The STAR.

The barangay chairman, a suspected drug lord in North Caloocan who died in an ambush in June 2016, even called for a meeting with Azarcon.

The two women are currently serving time.

“This is the closest that we have as far as the investigation is concerned. We are still checking if there are closed-circuit television cameras in the area and if there are possible eyewitnesses,” Mendoza said.
