MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will intensify its drive to enforce Republic Act 10586, the law penalizing drunk and drugged driving, this holiday season, an official said yesterday.
LTO chief Edgar Galvante appealed to the public to have a designated driver when going to parties.
Motorists caught driving drunk or drugged could be fined between P30,000 and P80,000 and have their driver’s license suspended or revoked, he added.
He said 10 patrol teams composed of 45 enforcers will be deployed by the LTO in partnership with the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic.
While the LTO currently only has 150 breath analyzers nationwide, Galvante said the agency is set to procure 300 more by next year.
The LTO chief added that there is a private company that pledged to provide breath analyzers to the agency.
