Ex-SAF member shot dead in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines – A former member of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (SAF) allegedly involved in illegal drugs was gunned down in Caloocan City on Tuesday.

Police Officer 1 Alex Reyes, 38, was on his motorcycle (ZM-1302) when a lone gunman shot him several times along Lirio street in Barangay Camarin at around 1:45 a.m., according to case investigator PO3 Ryan Rodriguez.

Police recovered from Reyes a sachet of shabu and drug paraphernalia.

The assailant fled after seeing Reyes sprawled on the pavement, witnesses said.

Reyes suffered three gunshots to the head and was declared dead on arrival at the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital.

Reyes was a former SAF member assigned at the Regional Police Holding and Accounting Unit.

His sister said he was dismissed from the police service in 2015 over several cases filed against him.

4 drug suspects fall in QC

In Quezon City, police officers arrested four persons in separate anti-illegal drug operations on Tuesday night.

Joyce de Guia, 20, yielded methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu following her arrest in Barangay Pasong Putik, Fairview.

Her two cohorts identified only as “Anne” and “Jeje” eluded arrest.

John Rex Hizon, 26, was accosted for urinating in public along Araneta Avenue in Barangay Tatalon at around 11 p.m. When searched, police recovered from him a packet of shabu.

Another suspect Jerry Caraig, 40, was caught along Banawe street in Barangay Tatalon.

Caraig yielded shabu and a 22-inch ice pick, police said.

Ricardo Redoble, alias “Wawet,” was apprehended with three sachets of shabu during a surveillance operation in Barangay Pinagkaisahan at around 11:30 p.m.

The suspects were held at the Quezon City Police District detention cell on drug charges. – With Romina Cabrera
