MANILA, Philippines – Two men were arrested in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City for possession of counterfeit money worth P32,000 Thursday afternoon.

Mohamad Makakina, 30, of Montalban Rizal, was nabbed after he used a bogus P1,000 bill to pay for powdered milk he bought at a store owned by Carmen Domingo on Kasunduan street at around 2:30 p.m., Batasan police station commander Superintendent Robert Sales said.

Using a money detector, Sales said Domingo checked the P1,000 bill and found out it was fake.

Domingo reported the incident to her husband who is a police officer, resulting in the arrest of Makakina.

Makakina admitted to police that he got the fake money from Datu Ali, 50, of Barangay Commonwealth.

Ali was apprehended in a follow-up operation. He yielded fake P1,000 and P500 bills worth P31,000.

Sales said they were investigating the suspects to determine if they were involved in a ring engaged in manufacturing counterfeit money.

The suspects are being held at the Batasan police station. They will be charged with swindling and violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code.
