MANILA, Philippines - The families who were displaced by a fire that hit Barangay 21 over the weekend received assistance from Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan yesterday morning.
Malapitan has tapped the city government’s social welfare department to dispatch prepacked relief goods and set up a mobile kitchen at St. Joseph’s Chapel, where the victims are temporarily staying.
He said the families of the four people who died in the fire will get burial and financial assistance aside from the free medical assistance given by the Caloocan City Medical Center.
The fire broke out at a wood seller’s house in Grace Park and destroyed around 30 houses, leaving at least 50 families homeless.
Two of the fatalities were identified as Michael Nacional, 30, and three-year-old Kiel Nacional.
Authorities estimated the cost of the fire’s damage at P3 million.
