4 Korean tourists figure in ‘unfortunate events’

MANILA, Philippines - Yesterday saw a series of unfortunate events for four Korean tourists in Manila.

Two of them went to the Manila Police District’s general assignment section to complain they had been victimized by thieves, while two others were arrested for harassing a bar employee.

The first complainant, Hyun Dok Kwon, dropped in at around 9 a.m.

The 39-year-old tourist said he lost an iPhone 6 to a male pickpocket in Ermita, Manila. He was not hurt.

Three hours later, Chonman Park, 36, went to the MPD and complained about losing his bag to an unidentified male snatcher.

Park said while he was in a passenger jeepney along Pedro Gil street at 10 p.m. Sunday and the man snatched his bag containing P4,000, 50,000 Korean won (roughly P2,000), a Gucci wallet, a Boss watch, an iPhone 6 and a laptop.

Twelve minutes later, Maria Isabel Montemayor, 22, filed charges against Aaron Chang, 47, and Jong Choel Jeong, 41.

She said she was entertaining them at Club Premier Yoko’s on Adriatico Street from Sunday night until past midnight yesterday when they got drunk and rowdy.

Montemayor alleged that Chang started grabbing her breasts and pulled her when she resisted.

Police officers arrested the Koreans at around 1 a.m.
