Man who shot, robbed JV’s aide nabbed

MANILA, Philippines - The man who allegedly robbed and shot an aide of Sen. JV Ejercito was arrested in Manila on Monday night.

Emil Joseph Jienela, 22, did not resist arrest when police officers caught him at the Philippine National Railways compound in Paco at around 8:30 p.m., Manila Police District (MPD) Station 5 commander Superintendent Romeo Macapaz said.

Jienela has been turned over to the MPD’s integrated jail.

Ejercito’s aide, Kathleen Tan, picked out Jienela’s mugshot from a police file of suspected criminals and identified him as the one who robbed and shot her in a taxi along Quirino Avenue last week. She was reported to be out of danger.

Macapaz said Jienela is known for robbing taxi passengers. Investigators are checking police records to see if there are other complainants against him.

Meanwhile, Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno lauded the MPD for Jienela’s arrest. – Aie Balagtas See, Jose Rodel Clapano
