Escaped inmate’s wife faces raps over Mandaluyong jailbreak

MANILA, Philippines - Police are readying charges against a housewife who allegedly helped her husband and 10 other inmates escape from the Mandaluyong police jail Monday.

Investigators are in the process of gathering evidence against the wife of Jordan Villadolid, the alleged mastermind of the escape, said city police chief Senior Superintendent Tyrone Masigon.

Three escapees who were captured – Gabby Capistrano, Nelson Yambao and Alber Llaneta – pointed to Villadolid’s wife as the one who smuggled into their cell the saw they used in destroying the iron grills of the window of the toilet behind the police station’s cell.

“We will file charges against her for aiding her husband and other inmates to escape,” Masigon said in an interview.

Police probers are reviewing footages from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the lobby of the police station to determine how Villadolid’s wife managed to sneak in the saw.

The escaping inmates were not captured on CCTV because they passed through the window of the toilet located at the far end of the detention cell.

Police operatives are conducting manhunt for the eight other escapees.

Masigon said the inmates destroyed the padlock of the storage room on the second floor and escaped.

Mandaluyong Mayor Benhur Abalos Jr. earlier ordered repairs in the police station’s detention cell to prevent another jailbreak.

Abalos directed the city’s engineering department to replace the iron grills with bigger ones.

The mayor’s office will shoulder the expenses for the repairs.
