School named after FPJ eyed in QC

MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon City councilor has proposed the renaming of an elementary school in Payatas after the late National Artist for Film Fernando Poe Jr.

“(FPJ) inspired a generation of television and movie impersonators, both serious and comedic. His iconic movie roles as the ‘Pinoy Robin Hood’ and ‘People’s Champion’ in most of his films have repeatedly been clichéd by Filipino action films to come,” said second district Councilor Precious Hipolito-Castelo.

In her proposed ordinance, Hipolito-Castelo said it is time that the Payatas B Elementary School Annex be officially separated from its mother school, and be renamed Fernando Poe Jr. Elementary School.

She said it currently over 1,266 students and has been operating as a separate school for 12 years.

“All the teaching forces, administrator, personnel, parents and pupils, and the whole community… firmly believe that it is high time for the school to be a separate and distinct institution,” said the councilor.
