Elderly man dies in QC fire

MANILA, Philippines - An elderly man died after a fire broke out in his house in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.

The charred remains of Jose Marciles, 71, was recovered after the fire in Barangay San Martin de Porres was put out by firefighters at 12: 55 p.m.

City fire marshal Superintendent Jesus Fernandez said the victim was cooking using a wood-powered stove when flames burst out and engulfed the house.

The fire damaged two adjacent houses, Fernandez said.

Damage to property was placed at P800,000.
