PNP marks 112th year of police service today

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker for the celebration of the 112th anniversary of the police service in the Philippines at Camp Crame today.

The Philippine National Police observes Aug. 8 as the anniversary of the police service in the country to mark the joint founding anniversaries of the Insular Constabulary, established in 1901, and the Integrated National Police, organized in 1975, both forerunners of the PNP.

The President is expected to issue major policy pronouncements on national peace and order issues as well as the reform and modernization of the PNP after the Department of Budget and Management released P2.86 billion for the police force’s capability enhancement program.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima will assist the Chief Executive in presenting awards to PNP units and personnel for outstanding achievements.

Among the recipients is Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo, Metro Manila police chief, who was recognized for ensuring that all police officers in Police Regional Office 7 are computer literate during his term as its director and for establishing 40 tourist assistance centers throughout the region.
