PNP revamp looms

MANILA, Philippines - A revamp in the Philippine National Police (PNP) is looming with the retirement of the No. 2 man in the police force today.

Deputy Director General Rommel Heredia, the deputy chief for administration (DCA), is turning 56 years old, the retirement age for police and military personnel.

PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima has yet to choose Heredia’s replacement, according to PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr.

Traditionally, the DCA is replaced by the deputy chief for operations (DCO), and the chief directorial staff (TCDS) will go one position higher.

Deputy Director General Ager Ontog is the current DCO while Deputy Director General Felipe Rojas is the TCDS.

“But it’s not always the case,” Cerbo said.

He added the PNP leadership will consult President Aquino and Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas on the movement of officials in the police force.

Heredia is the last member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class ‘79 in the PNP.
