MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Immigration (BI) clarified yesterday that a convicted pedophile turned away at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last April 4 was indeed Australian.
Australian police tipped off the BI on the arrival of Scot William Ilyes and identified him as a citizen of Australia. It was unclear why he carried a New Zealand passport, and whether the document was genuine, the BI said in a statement.
Ilyes, according to the Australian federal police, was convicted by a district court in Perth in 2010 for multiple counts of indecent assault on children and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
His sentence was later conditionally suspended for 24 months during which he was under probation and supervision.
