MANILA, Philippines - Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri has launched Operation Alis Kuto, the city government’s campaign to curb the spread of head lice.
The city health department has provided each health center in the city with pyrethin shampoos for distribution by city health workers to infected patients.
Echiverri said head lice infestation affects mostly girls between the ages of three and 11. This type of lice may also be spread from person to person through borrowing personal items such as combs, headbands, hats and pillows, he said.
He urged residents who wish to benefit from the city government’s campaign to go to the nearest health center and get the anti-lice shampoo. The program also covers a medical consultation and a hair cut, both for free.
Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas president, Councilor Ricojudge Echiverri, has directed barangay officials to conduct an information dissemination campaign.
