MANILA, Philippines - Guards have been deployed to the mausoleum of slain senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and his wife, the late President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, at the Manila Memorial Park after their tombs had been defaced last Christmas.
Senior Superintendent Billy Beltran, Parañaque City police chief, said the action was to “prevent a repeat” of that incident and to catch the vandal should he come back.
Beltran said the police have already talked with cemetery officials, and agreed that the latter will deploy security agents around the mausoleum while policemen look for Mariano Peralta Alganion, reportedly the same man accosted by the Presidential Security Group on Oct. 31 for trying to go near President Aquino.
