MANILA, Philippines - A businesswoman was killed and her son wounded when they were ambushed by gunmen on a motorcycle in Malate, Manila Friday afternoon.
Lolita Javier, 72, and her son, Hector, 44, were about to go into the parking area of a condominium along P. Ocampo street when two men on a motorcycle approached their vehicle and one of them started shooting at the victims.
The two victims were hit in various parts of their bodies. After the shooting, the attackers sped away.
Bystanders rushed the victims to the Ospital ng Maynila, where Lolita was declared dead on arrival. Hector is under observation for gunshot wounds in the neck and shoulder.
Police recovered a deformed slug from a .45 caliber pistol at the site of the ambush. Based on witnesses’ accounts, the attackers are professional hit men, investigators said, adding that they are eyeing business rivalry or family feud as motives for the ambush.
