10 groups to bid for LRT 3

MANILA, Philippines - At least 10 groups have expressed interest in participating in the bidding for the P1.5 billion Light Rail Transit (LRT) Metro Rail Transit (MRT) or LRT 3-MRT7 common station construction project along EDSA.

Among the interested parties are EEI, DMCI-First Balfour, D.M. Wenceslao, Foundation Specialist, Marcbuilt, F.F. Cruz. A.M. Oreta, Megawide Construction, Sumitomo Corp. and B.F. Construction.

Hernando Cabrera, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) corporate secretary and MRT-LRT spokesman however said the LRTA board during its meeting on Friday decided to postpone the Aug. 18 schedule for the submission of bids.

Cabrera said the LRTA board wanted incoming Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas to review the project including the process observed by the DOTC-LRTA technical working group in preparing the bid.

“That schedule (Aug. 18) will have to be disregarded to give way to the incoming secretary to review the project and issue his instructions or give proper guidance on the bidding,” he said.

Cabrera said the prospective bidders will be informed about the postponement through bid bulletins that will be sent to them next week.

The common station project will be built along a portion of EDSA near its intersection with West Avenue and North Avenue.
