MANILA, Philippines - Fires razed shantytowns in Pateros and Marikina Sunday night.
In Barangay Sto. Rosario Kanluran, Pateros town, 10 people were hurt and 150 families were left homeless after a blaze destroyed 70 houses.
Fire officials are eyeing an unattended gas stove in the home of Renato Sorila as the cause of the fire, which started at past 10 p.m. and reached Task Force Alpha before it was put out at around 2 a.m.
The families are temporarily sheltered at the town’s covered court as government officials look for relocation sites.
In Concepcion Dos, Marikina City, a fire of unknown origin destroyed at least 46 shanties in Concepcion Dos. Property damage was pegged at P2 million.
The fire started along Panganiban street at around 8:15 p.m. Sunday, and firefighters battled the four-alarm fire for more than two hours before declaring it “under control.” Nobody was hurt in the blaze.
Those displaced by the fire were temporarily evacuated to the SSS Village Elementary School. – Aie Balagtas See, Non Alquitran
