Fires hit Parañaque, Valenzuela

A fire razed a two-storey house in Parañaque City 30 minutes before Christmas Day officially ended Thursday night.

Fire aide Frederick Valenzuela said no one was killed or hurt in the hour-long blaze but it destroyed P2 million worth of property. The house belonged to the Gonzalvo family.

“The house (located on Palm Spring street in Merville Park subdivision) was totally burned because no one was home,” he told The STAR.

Valenzuela said arson probers are yet to determine what caused the fire, which started at the second floor of the structure.

There was also no one home when another house burned down Thursday night in Valenzuela City. Superintendent Agapito Nacario, Valenzuela City fire marshal, said Benjamin de Jesus and his family were in the province for the holidays and left behind housemaid Carol Loney, to look after their house at the corner of St. Jude and Sta. Rita streets in Barangay Malinta.

According to reports, Loney was out of the house when the fire started at around 6 p.m. at the second floor. The fire, which was put out in less than an hour, damaged P2 million worth of property. No one was reported hurt. – Michael Punongbayan, Pete Laude
