5 killed on All Saints' weekend

Five men were killed in several violent incidents in Quezon City over the weekend.

Gerry Canoy, a 39-year-old construction worker, died after he was hit with a slab of stone on the head following his arrest for gambling Saturday afternoon.

His alleged attacker, Conrado Dimayakyak, was turned over to the police after he surrendered to a barangay leader and admitted to the crime.

Investigator Police Officer 3 Joseph Madrid said the incident happened at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in front of a stones and pebbles supply store along EDSA in San Roque 2, Barangay Pag-asa.

At 2:15 a.m., Ramil Quinagon, 26, was stabbed, by a group of men who ganged up on him and his friend as they were walking home from the house of his girlfriend in Barangay New Era.

Investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Mario Turiano Quinagon said Quinagon, died while undergoing treatment at 3:15 a.m. at the New Era Hospital in Quezon City.

Reports showed Quinagon and his friend were walking along Central Avenue when they noticed a group of men following them. The group chased them and beat them up when they tried to run.

One of the suspects pulled out a bladed weapon and stabbed Quinagon and his friend. When the two fell, the suspects walked away.

At midnight also on Saturday, Jose Michael Flores, 44, of Barangay Sauyo, was repeatedly stabbed in front of his live-in partner by a certain “JR,” who remains at large.

Turiano said Dela Cruz brought Flores to the East Avenue Medical Center, where he died 30 minutes later.

Before the day ended, Cornello Mamaril, a 30-year-old laborer, was stabbed to death at a market in Barangay Unang Sigaw in Balintawak.

Vegetable vendor Lorena Sin-sin said she was manning her stall when Mamaril came running up to her store.

An unidentified man caught up with Mamaril and stabbed him twice before fleeing. Witnesses took Mamaril to the Quezon City General Hospital, where he died an hour later.

At past midnight yesterday, house painter Joshua Buemia, 19, was stabbed after a brawl between his gang and another gang along Quezon Avenue in Barangay Tatalon.

Police Officer 3 Joseph Diño said barangay tanods took Buemia to the National Orthopedic Hospital, where he died at 3 a.m. while undergoing surgery.

Investigation showed Buemia and his friends were walking home after drinking at a bar near Mabuhay Rotunda when they were attacked.

The brawl did not last long and Buemia’s group immediately left the area, but unknown to them a member of the other gang tailed them.
