Quezon City approves population ordinance

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. approved an ordinance to establish a population monitoring center in each of the 142 barangays in the city.

The population information ordinance also sets in place effective mechanism to monitor population trends in the city that will provide policy makers and urban planners with baseline information needed to enhance their capabilities in public administration and program development.

The city government will allocate P10 million to facilitate the implementation of the new measure to be known as the “QC Population Information and Monitoring Center Ordinance.”

Under the new measure, the city planning and development office has been tasked as overall coordinator of the population information and monitoring center.

The National Statistics Office reported that Quezon City population has a population of 2,649,450 as of Aug. 1, 2007, which is the largest in Metro Manila.

The densely-populated barangays in the city includes Commonwealth, Batasan Hills, Holy Spirit, Pasong Tamo, Tandang Sora, Bagong Silangan, Matandang Balara, Culiat, Bahay Toro and Baesa. – Perseus Echeminada
