A laborer was stabbed dead by two men he confronted for hitting his sleeping child.
Jun Pinlac, 29, a helper at a construction company, died of multiple stab wounds he sustained from suspects Lester Samurtin and Jonie Rosas Saturday night in Payatas, Quezon City.
According to a report from the Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, the two suspects quickly fled the scene but were eventually arrested by authorities.
Prior to the incident, Pinlac’s one-year-old son was resting in front of their house with witness Rex Anggo at around 9 p.m. when Samurtin hit them with a small branch.
Pinlac was still inside the house when Anggo confronted Samurtin, who did not apologize for what he had done. This prompted Anggo to tell Pinlac about the incident, causing the father to come out of the house and approach the two suspects.
But upon seeing the already enraged father, the suspects each pulled out a bladed weapon and attacked Pinlac. Neighbors brought him to the East Avenue Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.
On Friday night, another laborer was stabbed dead, this time by an unidentified suspect.
A police report stated that a witness saw the suspect running after Andres Aquino, 26, at around 10 p.m. in Barangay Bahay Toro. The suspect cornered Aquino at a grotto in Sitio Militar Baba, and repeatedly stabbed him.
The suspect then walked towards a nearby slum area. Aquino died while undergoing treatment at the Quezon City General Hospital.
Investigators are still determining the motive behind the killing. – Reinir Padua
