Pacquiao fan dies defending idol

A fan of Manny Pacquiao gave literal meaning to the word "die-hard" fan.

Editho Villegas was killed by a knockout punch delivered by an Erik Morales rooter during a heated argument in Quezon City.

Pacquiao lost a heart-breaking 12-round decision last Sunday to Morales in Las Vegas the other day.

Villegas, a 27-year-old construction worker and resident of 1408 Gana Compound in Barangay Unang Sigaw, died on arrival at the Quezon City General Hospital after he received the fatal blow from a co-worker identified only as Nanny Oblino.

A police report would only confirm that the victim was having a heated argument with the suspect at around 10 in the evening. His daughter told investigators she saw the suspect punch her father in the face during the argument.

But a radio report, quoting witnesses, said the two were having an argument on who between Pacquiao or Morales was the better fighter.

At the height of the argument, the suspect, apparently a Morales fan, delivered a punch that sent the victim down to the concrete pavement, causing the latter’s skull to crack.

Police operatives are hunting the suspect, who immediately fled after the incident.
