Teacher killed in Cubao mishap

A female teacher was pinned to death when the jeepney she was riding was hit by another jeepney in Cubao, Quezon City yesterday morning.

Investigators identified the victim as 55-year-old Aurora Urfano, of Project 4, Quezon City.

Traffic Officer 2 Ricardo Angeles said that Urfano was riding a Cubao-Remedios jeepney (TWJ-870) driven by Roger Bulusan at about 6:30 a.m. when it was hit by a private jeepney driven by Freddie Petalio, 40, at the corner of New York street and E. Rodriguez Avenue.

Angeles said the impact caused the passenger jeepney to roll over, pinning Urfano. A bystander, identified as 64-year-old Agapito Maranga was also hurt.

According to Angeles, Urfano, who sustained multiple injuries, died on the spot.

Petalio, 40, and chief mechanic of the Dagupan Bus Co., was later arrested by police and is now undergoing investigation at the Traffic Sector 8 of the Central Police District.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injury are being readied against him. – Katherine Adraneda
