Canadian mayor to grace QC anniversary celebration

The city mayor of New Westminster – the sister city of Quezon City in Canada – will be the special guest of the Quezon City government during its 64th foundation anniversary on Oct. 12, a ranking Quezon City official said yesterday.

Dr. Victor Endriga, city treasurer and co-chairman of the weeklong celebration said Mayor Wayne Wright and four members of the city council of New Westminster are expected to arrive on Oct. 12.

Endriga and Nathan Zulueta, president of the Quezon City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCCI) were appointed by Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. as chairmen of the affair.

He said a testimonial dinner for the outstanding citizens of Quezon City for 2003 and a civic military parade will be held on Oct. 12. A two-day gathering of business leaders and stakeholders at the Celebrity Sports Plaza has also been scheduled.

Zulueta said during the gathering, Belmonte will discuss with members of the business community his vision and his challenge of transforming the city into a quality community.

"Mayor Belmonte will also report on the accomplishments of his administration during the last two and a half years and will unveil his infrastructure and development projects for the city," he said.

He said more than 1,000 delegates have confirmed their attendance to the annual meeting of the city entrepreneurs and businessmen.

"Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista is expected to report on the legislative agenda of the council, particularly ordinances affecting the business community," Zulueta said.

He said various topics such as entrepreneurship, fund sourcing, financing, franchising, latest marketing trends as well as networking will be discussed during the conference scheduled on Oct. 8 and 9.– Perseus Echeminada
