Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has signed an executive order granting financial assistance to operatives of the Central Police District (CPD) who die in the line of duty.
The order, which took effect May 24, among others, awards P30,000 to any police officer of the CPD in active service who dies in the line of duty. The amount includes burial and financial assistance to the surviving dependents of the law enforcers, over and above the other benefits and renumerations they are entitled to under the law.
In issuing the executive order, Belmonte said the grant is a manifestation of the city governments recognition of the vital contribution of law enforcers in the maintenance of peace and order in the city.
The term "in the line of duty" or "in the performance of duty" shall include all officials and lawful acts of a police officer, such as when making a lawful arrest, doing an investigation, or actually reporting for work or on duty.
The benefits provided under the order shall be made payable to the officers dependents upon presentation of proof of relationship or dependency, death certificate, an incident report and certification coming from the CPD director attesting that said police officer was on duty at the time of his/her death.
Belmonte directed concerned city offices and departments to release all available funds necessary for the payment of the benefits.
